The State Of Maryland Was Considered A Border State

During The War Between the States, the State of Maryland was considered a border state. This was because Maryland did not have a majority of its people backing either the Union or the Confederacy. In addition, it was geographically located between the Northern free states and the Southern slave states. Maryland was a dichotomy before the Civil War as the state had almost as many free blacks as it did slaves. In early 1861, almost 84,000 â€Å"free Negroes† were identified while more than 87,000 black and mixed race individuals were listed as slaves. Maryland was made up of merchants and business people in the central and western parts of the state with primarily farmers and slaveholders in the east and south. The merchant class, gaining control of the state legislature, felt that a war with the North would be economically devastating and could destroy their businesses. That was one of the main reasons Maryland did not initially join the Confederacy. In addition, the state legislature felt they’d be unable to protect their border with Pennsylvania, also known as the 244-mile long Mason-Dixon Line, from a Union invasion. They also feared a blockade of Baltimore Harbor by the Union Navy. This paper will focus on the consequences and risk factors of child abuse and neglect in first world countries such as North America and New Zealand. About 40 million children experience some kind of maltreatment around the world each year (Odhayani, A. A, Watson, W.J, Waston, L, 2013). Although, any child is susceptible to child maltreatment children from low-income families and poor family structures such as living in a one-parent household are more prone to abuse. Abused children experience many mental health problems such as severe depression and anxiety. However, do these mental health issues express themselves to the same degree in different ethnicities? Literature Review Berger (2004) was interested in looking to see if family incomes as well as family structure had any influence on child neglect. Companies in France have more categorized level than in other countries company. The people who have the power can make decisions in a company (Geert Hofstede, 2016). Uncertainty avoidance: This index shows the degree to which the people of a country are exposed to vague or uncertain state and have formed opinions and try to neglect these. A greater score shows that the country follows guidelines and regulations while low score shows that the country agrees for a change and undertakes large amount of threats. In France, score is high, around 86. French people often used to plan in advance and require all materials before starting any business meeting. Long term orientation: is the grade to which the country holds or not, long lasting commitment towards old-fashioned, advanced intellectual beliefs. Greater long term orientation denotes that the society advises to long lasting commitments and respect for custom. Thus believed to withstand a solid work principle where long lasting awards are given for the heavy work done at present. A low score denotes the opposite where in the society is capable of changing as long lasting traditions do not prevail and thus does not become barriers for change. France gives a score of 63 which is high and thus gives a practical and logical approach to society. There is a thinking that the degree of truth varies with time, perspective as well as situation.
